Bold lover, never, never can you kiss,
though winning near the goal - yet do not grieve;
She cannot fade, though you have not your bliss,
Forever will you love, and she be fair!
The general idea is expressed in another line in the poem: Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard / are sweeter...

Oh...that's a beautiful poem by Keats. Also, these lines from Emily Dickinson come to my mind for these 'elephants in love':
I cannot live with You
It would be Life
And Life is over there
Behind the Shelf
-----
-----
I could not die with You
For One must wait
To shut the Other's Gaze down
You could not
-----
-----
So We must meet apart
You there – I – here
With just the Door ajar
------
------
Thanks.
Sandy.
